Today we dig deeper to reveal common issues beneath addiction and why we end up using drugs, sex, alcohol, food, even work, to self-medicate what remains unresolved in the unconscious mind. Avoidance and control are common strategies to stop addiction and yet, by not resolving the unconscious dynamics, we are left whack-a-moling symptoms the rest of our lives which can get really frustrating and exhausting. Satchel Stillwell shares his experience of his relationship with drugs to avoid the inner realities he realized he was trying to avoid. He had to recognize that each time he went to drugs, was to alleviate underlying unresolved emotions. This is an excellent discussion on how we can unlock the grip of addiction and encounter the best version of ourselves. There is no shame or condemnation if you or a loved one have experienced addiction. You are not alone, you can succeed, and you are worth the investment! Struck with the reality that addiction is present within our own families is a heavy blow. We don’t have to remain victims to this reality however. I’ve invited Satchel Stillwell - experienced counselor, addiction recovery specialist, and adjunct professor at TKU - to share his personal story of how addiction ruled his life. It was by a tremendous act of grace and drawing a boundary that led Stillwell to surrender what his flesh sought for so long, and step into recovery and healing. Maintaining relational equity AND setting healthy boundaries for those struggling with this disease are imperative to find success with a family member struggling with addiction. There is no shame or condemnation if you or a loved one have experienced addiction. We are here to support, encourage, and give you tools to unlock the you that God created you to be! Does money seem to complicate your life? Whether you have an abundance or scarcity, money takes the role of “pain point” in many of our discussions, marriages, and families. We want to break that cycle and replace “pain point” with “opportunity for generosity.” I’ve invited the amazing and driven Eric Dunavant to share his experience and wisdom on what our top asset truly is - family. In this episode, Dunavant drives home the truth that our control of money is finite, that transformation happens through relationships (it’s not purely transactional), and what we do echoes in eternity. It’s time to unlock generosity and find JOY in God’s economy! Follow Eric Dunavant below! Anxiety Sucks! Many of us have struggled with it for years and we’ve tried to control it, analyze it, avoid it and stuff it down, getting temporary relief, only to find it resurfacing at the most inconvenient times. Life doesn’t stop for our panic attacks or provide a break when we’re feeling overwhelmed. Life does not have to stay this way. The Unlock U channel is dedicated to helping you start to bring unconscious dynamics into light. There is often more than one unconscious source to our chronic anxiety that, once resolved, restores peace to our soul. While there are countless roots to anxiety and each person’s experience with anxiety is unique, my hope is to offer a relatable illustration of anxiety. As you listen to a common example of a (de-identified) real person struggling with anxiety, to show you how you might use the Psychodynamic Triangle to find the unconscious sources of anxiety. Many of us think we are just anxious people and accept it as a personality quirk. What if some of our chronic anxiety is actually a disavowed part of your soul that has been containing the pain and insecurity that you didn’t know how to process at the time. My prayer is for the Psychodynamic Triangle to serve as a practical tool you can use when you’re struggling to “get over” persistent emotions. Here at the Unlock U channel, we are rooting for you to prosper even as your soul prospers! Follow Dr. Crawford below!
